Comparing 9, The Short, and 9, The Full Length Movie
In 9 the short film, the plot was very straightforward. It didn't really entail many abnormal distinct features that added to plot. There was very limited character development. In relation to the characters, we didn't see much of the main character "9" opinion or character. Regardless, the maker did an amazing job with the character distinction with the time given. The viewer was able to identify the main protagonist and antagonist with those simple ten minutes. In addition there was a clear beginning middle and end. The main antagonist was able to be portrayed in the correct manner with the limited amount of viewing given. This is something that is extremely difficult to do with the genre and time given but the plot and character roles were very identifiable.
In 9 the full- length film, the plot was taken in a completely different direction. The character development was more established. The viewer was able to gain a better understanding and feelings toward the characters based on their additional actions. This was especially better because you were able to gain a better understanding of the overall plot through the increased character development as well. In addition, there were also a increasing number in side notes. Side notes being things that don't necessarily have anything to do with the plot, which added to the liking of the characters and the film overall.
In comparison, the films seem completely different but do have some similarities. They both have the same overall point. The point being 9 being a hero and defeating an antagonist, but the execution was very different. The regular film spent a lot of time developing the characters, this was through side notes or extra scenes that don't necessarily have anything to do with the plot but help establish the personality and nature of the characters. In addition that led to the plot being better understood because within the short film the plot was very vague and moved very fast compared to the actual film that took its time and established the groundwork. Lastly, even down to the transitions were different. Within the short film, they were very fast paced and not very creative but it was the complete opposite with the full-length film.
